Legacy of the Void: All changes

From Liquipedia StarCraft 2 Wiki

If you just want to take a quick look at the changes, you should read Legacy of the Void. This page is very detailed and lists all references to Blizzard patch changes and balance updates. E. g. Blizzard implemented a change, which is called "Scan Range", which was first mentioned by JaKaTaK in his Youtube channel[1].

This article is converted from LotV Multiplayer Changes Compilation. It was rewritten in some parts, though.

Some of the changes were introduced in LotV Beta. With Patch 3.0.0 some of these changes were implented in HotS, too.

New multiplayer features[edit]

Automated Tournaments
Come prove your might against participants from around the world in no-holds-barred tournaments that run once per day at specific times. Entries are open to players of all skill levels. Sign up, survive the elimination rounds, and face off against the best for ultimate dominance! Note: Automated Tournaments will influence your MMR.
Archon Mode
Two heads are better than one: you and an ally share control over a single base to battle against two enemies in multiplayer action. Learn basic tactics from a seasoned veteran or amplify the power of a burgeoning all-star. Embody the spirit of the Archon and merge together to become a greater, unified force.
Co-op Missions aka "Allied Commanders"
Take command in a brand new co-op game mode where you and a friend fight hosts of enemies in action-packed, objective-driven missions. Master the art of war with StarCraft legends such as Jim Raynor, Sarah Kerrigan, and Hierarch Artanis, and use their unique talents to turn the tide of battle in your favor. Level up to unlock additional units and new abilities—including exclusive team powers. The name "Allied Commanders" was replaced with "Co-op Missions" on 30th of October 2015[2].

Game speed changes[edit]

The default game speed 'Faster' is now 1 to 1 with real time. Thus a game that lasted 12 in-game minutes now lasted 12 actual minutes instead of 12 / 1.4 ~= 8 minutes and 34 seconds.

Consequently all unit movement speeds, rate of fire, build times and ability cooldowns have their numbers changed. For example a 110 second upgrade will now state 110 / 1.4 ~= 79 seconds in the tooltip, and have had its actual research time rounded to this number. Note that it still takes almost exactly the same time to finish such an upgrade because the in-game time is going proportionally slower.

Blizzard have in their patch notes for LotV updates mostly used the HotS timers, and so when stating times like cooldowns below, I will use the HotS timers aswell.

The SC2-Editor is able to support "Game Time" and "Real Time". This did not change, but it may effect Arcade Maps. E.g. If a Trigger is set to 10 minutes "Game Time" it will work in HotS, but not in LotV. To make it work in LotV one has to use "Real Time". Support both? Complicated, but possible.

If you lost track about "Lock On", you could look into the SC2-Editor. But keep in mind it uses 20 "HotS-seconds", not 14 "Real Time" seconds. Please remember that, if you read the Patch Changes.
