Counter Logic Gaming is an established professional gaming organization with teams competing worldwide at the highest levels. They are known for their League of Legends Team that is the oldest League of Legends team still active.

History[edit]

Founding (2010-2011)[edit]

Counter Logic Gaming took off as a League of Legends team on April 16, 2010 by George "HotshotGG" Georgallidis after parting ways with his former squad due to internal disagreements. While the original League team consisted of a huge total of ten players, their starting five-man roster soon took form, and they established themselves a dominating contender with victories at WCG 2010 and later IEM VI's Global Challenge Cologne in 2011.[1]

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (2014-2018 )[edit]

CLG's expansion into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was first hinted at in December 2014 by Georgallidis in an interview with onGamers:

We're looking at all avenues. Right now we're really interested in CS:GO and Dota 2, and hopefully we'll be expanding to those areas very soon.
George "HotshotGG" Georgallidis ([1])

The expansion became a reality on January 1, 2015, when the former squad of mouseSpaz that had taken the North American scene by storm towards the end of 2014, qualifying to MLG X Games Aspen over their rivals Torqued as well as achieving respectable victories in various online tournaments, joined the organization. The team's first event appearance under the CLG banner was the MLG Invitational, where the team was drawn into a "group of death" against Fnatic, Team LDLC.com and the replacement of ex-iBUYPOWER, Team Liquid.

The squad managed to kick the event off with a shocking upset over LDLC with a 16-14 victory on Dust II, led by a strong 32-frag performance by ptr.[2]. However, in their next game against their countrymen in Liquid, the Counter Logic team suffered a devastating 5-16 defeat. On the second day of the tournament, Fnatic hit the final nail in the CLG coffin - the Swedes destroyed reltuC's squad 16-7 on Mirage, knocking them out of the tournament and ending their campaign in their debut event with a disappointing 7-8th place finish.

On November 30, 2017, Counter-Logic Gaming announced that it would be parting ways with its male CS:GO divisions.[3]
