Winstrike Team is a Russian esports organization with teams in CS:GO, Dota 2, Overwatch, and Fortnite, sponsored by Winstrike.

History[edit]

Acquisition and Early Performances[edit]

On June 20, 2018, Winstrike made their entrance into CS:GO by acquiring the Quantum Bellator Fire lineup [1], consisting of Gregory "balblna" Oleinick, Aurimas "Kvik" Kvakšys, Nikita "waterfaLLZ" Matveyev, Saveliy "jmqa" Bragin, Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov, and coach Dmitriy "iksou" Mihailichenko. The squad had recently found success at the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 as the first team to ever make it to the playoffs of a major tournament after coming from the open qualifiers of the minor, but had seen relatively poor LAN results afterwards, with last place finishes at St. Petersburg Cybersport Festival "Defender" and Copenhagen Games 2018, 3rd place at World Cyber Arena 2017 - World Finals, and a 3rd-4th finish at their last event before officially joining the new organization, Moche XL Esports 2018 (the team members were, however, already sporting Winstrike jerseys at the event). These results were coupled with equally disappointing online showings, as they had failed to qualify for DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018, DreamHack Open Tours 2018, and Adrenaline Cyber League 2018, among other tournaments, as well as having weak placements in many other Minor cups and leagues. The unsatisfactory performances continued after the acquisition, with a last place finish at their first LAN under the Winstrike Team banner, Zotac Cup Masters 2018 - Europe, along with further disappointing online results, as they failed to qualify for StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 6. Some LAN success was found, as they placed 1st at M.Game League #2 and 3rd-4th in MID.TV Cyber Cup, as well as online success with 1st and 2nd place finishes in Legend Series: Europe #5 - Online Stage and BravoBet Cup respectively. They were not able to repeat their ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 showing, as they went out of the FACEIT Major: London 2018 in 15th-16th place, following losses to Team Liquid, Fnatic, and Cloud9.

Initial Changes[edit]

After having not been able to retain their Major spot due to the new rules regarding teams that place last in the New Legends Stage[2], Winstrike decided to make massive changes to their CS:GO lineup, initially benching every player but Boombl4 just one week after their FACEIT Major: London 2018 campaign.[3] About one month later, on October 19th, 2018, Winstrike Team acquired Georgi "WorldEdit" Yaskin and Jan "wayLander" from FlipSid3 Tactics, as well as David "n0rb3r7" Danielyan, and brought Kvik back from the bench onto the starting lineup.[4] Results were not significantly improved after this change, as the team failed to qualify for DreamHack Open Winter 2018, but were then able to qualify for the Katowice 2019 - CIS Minor. On December 26, 2018, Daniil "pipsoN" Mescheryakov was signed as an assistant coach.[5]

At the Minor, the team placed 3rd, and were then able to qualify for the New Challengers Stage through the Minors' 3rd Place Play-In. The team placed 17th-19th at the Major, being just one win away from qualifying for the New Legends Stage. Right after the Major, the team failed to qualify for Esports Championship Series Season 7 - Europe. On March 14th, 2019, iksou left the team, and pipsoN was promoted to head coach. [6] Shortly after, on March 26th, 2019, wayLander was replaced by former HellRaisers and Gambit Esports player Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk. Online results continued to be mixed, as the team failed to qualify for Intel Extreme Masters Season XIV - Sydney through GG.Bet Sydney Invitational, ESL One: Cologne 2019, and DreamHack Open Summer 2019, but did qualify for CS.Money Premier, and won GG League 2019 Olsztyn Offline Qualifier to qualify for Good Game League 2019.

Further Changes[edit]

On May 20th, 2019, former TYLOO coach Ivan "Johnta" Shevtsov became the new coach of Winstrike Team, replacing pipsoN.[7] A week later, on may 28th, 2019, Aleksey "El1an" Gusev was brought in to replace WorldEdit.[8] The next day, Boombl4 was transferred to Natus Vincere, while Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev joined Winstrike Team on loan until the end of 2019.[9] This left Kvik as the only remaining member of the original Quantum Bellator Fire squad that was acquired by Winstrike in June of 2018. The team failed to qualify for the Berlin 2019 - CIS Minor, after which they finished last at DreamHack Open Summer 2019.
