Chronology
DreamLeague Season 23 was the 23rd season of DreamLeague and the final tournament of the second season of ESL Pro Tour. It was the final chance for teams to obtain EPT points to qualify directly for Riyadh Masters 2024, with several teams in contention, as well as OG, in the top 8 but having not qualified for the tournament.
Valve released 7.36 during the tournament, just before the Playoffs, adding a level of complexity to the tournament. This patch, dubbed "8.00" by the community, featured Innate Abilities and Facets, upending teams' understanding of the heroes, with many of them now having at least two viable ways to play the hero.
The tournament was won by Team Falcons, beating Gaimin Gladiators 3-0, extending their ESL Pro Tour Season 2 tournament win streak. Both teams played 27 unique heroes in the Grand Finals combined, reflecting the uncertainty about the patch. The tournament results also saw Tundra Esports and Team Spirit secure direct invites to Riyadh Masters 2024, as well as OG retaining theirs, as no other team was able to overtake them.
Falcons are so good. Every time I think to myself, maybe this team has slowed down a little bit, maybe other teams have their number at this point of the patch or the start of the patch — no. They just needed a day. They got 2-0 by Gaimin Gladiators yesterday — they took that personally, they made their preparations today, and they brought it. Every single player on Falcons today played exceptionally.

Event[edit]
DreamLeague Season 23 was the 23rd season of DreamLeague and the final tournament of the second season of ESL Pro Tour, and thus the final chance for teams to obtain EPT points to qualify directly for Riyadh Masters 2024. Team Spirit, Tundra Esports, HEROIC, Shopify Rebellion, Aurora, Azure Ray, PSG Quest and Natus Vincere all could potentially qualify (in increasing order of difficulty), as well as OG, who had not qualified for the tournament, but were in the top 8, having participated in ESL One Birmingham 2024 in controversial fashion. Team Spirit and Tundra Esports had relatively-simple requirements to secure themselves a top 8 spot in the ESL Pro Tour rankings, with the others likely needing top 3 at a bare minimum, and only Azure Ray having looked like they could do this at any tournament this season (having finished third at Elite League Season 1).[5]
During the Playoffs, an ISP outage in Romania forced Aurora and HEROIC, bootcamping in Romania, to forfeit their series.[6] With both teams trying to secure a spot in the top 8 of the EPT rankings, this ended their hopes. This ensured that the only final EPT permutation was that if Azure Ray won the tournament, they would overtake and drop Team Spirit from the top 8; this also did not come to pass, as Xtreme Gaming beat them 2-1 in the Lower Bracket Quarter Final.
The tournament was won by Team Falcons, beating Gaimin Gladiators 3-0, extending their ESL Pro Tour Season 2 tournament win streak. Both teams played 27 unique heroes in the Grand Finals combined, reflecting the uncertainty about the patch. Despite Team Falcons' dominance over the season, however, Gaimin Gladiators won Riyadh Masters 2024, and Team Spirit won The International 2024.
