ESL One, the successor to ESL Major Series One, is a tournament series organized by ESL Gaming. It brings teams and players from all over the world compete in an esports tournament. ESL One initially featured the games Dota 2, Counter-Strike and Battlefield 4 and will take place in sports stadiums all over the world.
ESL One Hamburg 2017 was the first ESL One which attained Major status as part of the tournament ruleset from Valve for the Dota Pro Circuit. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, ESL One events in 2020 and 2021 took place online. Following the restructuring of the Dota Pro Circuit in 2021, ESL One focused on the Eastern Europe and North America portion of the regional leagues. ESL One returned to LAN events in 2022, beginning with ESL One Stockholm Major 2022. In September 2023, Valve announced the end of Dota Pro Circuit.[1]
ESL One events was later included as part of the ESL Pro Tour, beginning in Season 2 with two events; the first being ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 and the second being ESL One Birmingham 2024.[2][3][4][5]

It Is Time To Brawl As ESL One Powered By Intel® Returns to Birmingham, United Kingdom“The Dota 2 community, especially in the UK, has truly proven itself for being fun-loving, engaged with the show, and not afraid to get involved.
Bringing live Dota 2 to Birmingham once again, we are therefore thrilled to create more memorable and electrifying moments for fans, not just for those uniting at the Resorts World Arena next April, but also for those joining us from their homes around the globe.”
Shane Clarke, Director Game Ecosystems Dota 2
ESL One returned to Asia in 2024 with ESL One Bangkok 2024.[6]
ESL Reveals Bangkok As Destination for Final ESL One Tournament in 2024“We’ve had Bangkok and its amazing fans on our shortlist for some time, and are super excited to finally have the opportunity to be able to bring world-class Dota to this passionate fanbase.
We’re looking forward to welcoming Dota 2 fans from both Thailand and abroad to Bangkok this December, for what’s set to be the biggest Dota 2 tournament ever hosted in the country.”
