ESL will host the United Kingdom's first ever Dota Major with ESL One Birmingham 2018[1]. In May 2018, 12 of the best teams in the world will compete for the prize pool of $1,000,000 USD and the important 1500 DPC Points to earn their invite for The International 2018. The main event will be held from May 25th to 27th in the Arena Birmingham[2].

Format[edit]

  • Qualifier and invites
    • Twelve Teams:
      • Six invites
      • One team each from the six regional qualifiers
  • Group Stage
    • The group stage will be played on May 23rd and 24th
    • All games are played backstage
    • Three GSL groups of four teams each
    • Bottom two teams from each group are eliminated, Runner-ups advance to the quarterfinals
    • The three first place teams play an additional Bo1 series against each other to determine which two teams advance to the semi-finals and which team joins the three runner-ups in the quarter-finals. If they tie in the first round of Bo1 matches, an additional round is played. If the tie persists, time rating of the last round is used to determine the seeding.
  • Playoffs
    • The playoffs will be held between May 25th and the 27th in front of a live audience in the Arena Birmingham
    • Single Elimination
    • All games will be Bo3
    • Bo5 Grand Finals
    • A 3rd place decider match will be played on the last day of the tournament before the Grand Finals

Prize Pool[edit]

The prize pool for the tournament is $1,000,000 USD and 1,500 Pro Circuit Points[1].
