Lane Creeps

Lane creeps fighting. The green leafy ones are Radiant creeps, and the red bony ones are Dire creeps. Melee creeps are fighting at the center while ranged creeps fire off projectiles at a distance. The large catapults are siege creeps. To the left is a Radiant siege creep, and to the right is a Dire siege creep.

Lane Creeps are the most common unit in Dota 2, and the biggest source of gold and experience for heroes. They spawn in waves at regular intervals in both bases and move down each lane towards the enemy base. They are uncontrollable by players and will attack any enemy units, buildings, and heroes along their way.

There are 3 types of Lane creeps: Melee, Ranged, and Siege. Melee creeps are the most common and have the most health. Ranged creeps do more damage towards creeps. Siege creeps do more damage against buildings. Lane creeps get stronger and appear in larger waves as time progresses.

When an enemy barracks is destroyed, the corresponding lane spawns Super creeps instead. Super Melee creeps spawn if the Melee barracks is destroyed, and Super Ranged/Siege creeps spawn if the Ranged barracks is destroyed. Super creeps have more health, do more damage, and give less gold and exp than regular creeps. When all barracks are destroyed, the creeps are further upgraded to Mega creeps. The presence of creeps is required to disable Backdoor Protection.

Mechanics[edit]

Wave Spawn[edit]

Creep waves start spawning at 0:00, and spawn every 30 seconds. Each wave consists of 3 Melee creeps and 1 Ranged creep. Every 10th wave will also spawn a Siege creep. A Melee creep is added to each wave at 15:00, 30:00, and 45:00, making it 4/5/6 Melee creeps for all lanes. At 35:00, every 10th wave spawns 2 Siege creeps instead of one. A Ranged creep is added to each wave at 40:00. Creeps spawn at the barracks for the Dire Top, Dire Mid, and Radiant Bottom lane, and from the top of the ramp at the Radiant Top, Radiant Mid, and Dire Bottom lane.

Every 7 minutes 30 seconds, Melee and Ranged creeps receive an upgrade in health, damage, and bounty. These improved stats only apply to creeps that spawned after the upgrade. Stats stop improving when they are equal to Mega Creeps. (Around the 4 hour mark for Super Creeps)

Creep Aggro[edit]

Creeps search for targets within a 500 radius. If none are found, they move down the lane. When aggroed, creeps will chase to attack their target for a few seconds, and then creep aggro will go on cooldown for a short period after. During the cooldown period they will ignore attacking enemy heroes instead of aggroing towards them. Normally when a hero attacks another hero, enemy creeps will target the attacker if creep aggro is not on cooldown. This occurs as soon as the attack command is made, even if out of range of the enemy. This can allow for advanced tactics such as manipulation of the creep wave equilibrium. Siege creeps preferentially target other Siege creeps and buildings.
