TFT Ancients Defense[edit]
The 2.90 – 7.00 era was under the developer GEO, who ported DotA to Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne under the name TFT Ancients Defense. This took place sometime from late 2003 to early 2004, in the span of roughly six months.
- Based on DotA 2.90
2.00[edit]
DotA[edit]
The 2.00 – 2.90 era was under the developer Eul, and lasted from early to mid 2003. Kyle Sommer, known by the aliases Eul and Eulogy, was the creator of the first DotA map with the title Defense of the Ancients. These early DotA versions ran on Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and is also known as RoC DotA by the community. This lineage follows what led to the current Dota version today and ignores other mods released by Eul. In total, Eul was the developer of DotA for less than one year.
1.00[edit]
The 1.00 – 1.62 era. Released by Eul in late 2002, around December. Runs on a Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos update released late November, so it could not have existed earlier. Of all the Aeon of Strife ports, this one becomes the most popular.
DotA Beta[edit]
The earliest known versions are 1.4 – 2.0, and are the oldest playable versions of DotA. Released by Eul sometime between August to November 2002.
- Based on Aeon of Strife
Origin[edit]
Aeon of Strife[edit]
Aeon of Strife was a custom map for StarCraft: Brood War created by Aeon64. Speculative release date ranges from late 2001 to early 2002, based on the typical time frame a mod's popularity would last. Without updates, users typically lost interest in a few months. Historically however, multiple modders ported Aeon of Strife to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, indicating high popularity at the time and a release date closer to 2002.
