Chronology

The 2023 Formula One World Championship British Grand Prix was held in Northamptonshire, United Kingdom on the Silverstone Circuit, on July 7-9.

Race Summary[edit]

Max Verstappen emerged victorious in the British Grand Prix, securing his first-ever win at the event and extending his winning streak to six races. McLaren's Lando Norris briefly took the lead at the start, sandwiching Verstappen between the two McLarens. However, Verstappen quickly regained the top spot and maintained his position throughout the race. Norris, opting for a different tire strategy, defended his second place against Lewis Hamilton, while Oscar Piastri held on to secure an impressive fourth place, his best F1 result to date.

Red Bull Racing's Sergio Pérez showcased another strong recovery drive, finishing in sixth place after a challenging qualifying session. Williams' Logan Sargeant also impressed with his personal best 11th place finish, narrowly missing out on points. Lance Stroll received a penalty for a collision with Pierre Gasly, causing Gasly's retirement from the race. Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen also retired due to technical issues.

Verstappen's victory not only extended his lead in the drivers' standings by 99 points over Perez but also marked Red Bull's record-equalling 11th consecutive win. The race saw various strategic tire choices under a late Safety Car period, with Norris opting for hard tires and the majority of front-runners selecting soft tires.

Throughout the race, Verstappen showcased his dominance, steadily building a comfortable lead over Norris. Hamilton engaged in an intense battle with Norris for second place after the Safety Car restart but was unable to make a successful pass. Piastri, Russell, Perez, and Alonso completed the top eight, with Albon, Leclerc, and Sainz securing the final points positions.

The British Grand Prix delivered thrilling on-track action, strategic tire decisions, and notable performances from several drivers, highlighting Verstappen's dominance and Red Bull's continued success.
