Alex Albon (born March 23, 1996) is a Thai/British driver who is currently driving for Williams.

Biography[edit]

After an illustrious karting career with two Super 1 National Championship titles and back-to-back wins at the CIK-FIA European and World Cups, Alex Albon moved to the Formula circuits in 2012, finding moderate success. His peak performance was a 2nd place at the 2016 GP3 Series and a 3rd place finish at the 2018 Formula 2 Championship before his promotion to F1.

Albon got a flying start in F1, first starting for Toro Rosso and later replacing Pierre Gasly at the title contenders Red Bull for the 2019 Formula One World Championship after the 2019 Hungarian Grand Prix.[1] Albon was already a reliable point scorer for Toro Roso and, with Red Bull's RB15, came close to a podium finish. Despite narrowly missing it in his debut season, Albon achieved the feat in 2020 with two podium finishes, one at the 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix and another at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. Albon faced demotion to test and reserve driver for the 2021 Formula One World Championship, being replaced by Sergio Pérez despite his solid driving. He returned to an F1 main roster after signing with Williams in 2022.

While Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said that Albon still had a "link to Red Bull" and there would be a possible recall of him for 2023,[2] Williams kept Albon on a multi-year contract, ending Albon's ties to the now reigning world champions.
