Dragon
Dragon is a subtype of minion in Hearthstone, so there could conceivably be game mechanics involving Dragons specifically. First synergy mechanics for the Dragon subtype were introduced in the Blackrock Mountain Card set.
Strategy[edit]
Most of the Dragon cards are very expensive late game cards suitable for slower control decks. Generally Alexstrasza is used in combo decks such as Freeze Mage or for combo finishes like in Control Warrior decks. Malygos has seen more play after Blackrock Mountain as Emperor Thaurissan makes it easier to unleash huge Spell bursts from players hand. Most notably Rogue and Warlock utilise Malygos for finisher with spells like Sinister Strike or Soulfire.
Strong dragon synergy cards such as Blackwing Corruptor require a Dragon card to be in player's hand to activate Battlecry Abilities. Decks that want to play these Dragon synergy cards should thus contain enough Dragons and card draw to maximize reliability of these combos.
Dragon cards[edit]
The following cards belong to the subtype Dragon. Note that Whelp and Emerald Drake are not cards that you can put in your deck. Instead, they are summoned and drawn, respectively, by Onyxia and Ysera, respectively.

Competitive use[edit]
There are several dragons that are used for competitive constructed play.
Ysera is common in Control decks as it gives recurring card advantage, all of which are quite powerful. Alexstrasza sees play in the Control Warrior decks as an effective way to cut down an opponents health to 15, or in some cases to heal themselves up to 15. Twilight Drake sees play in the Handlock deck, in which the Warlock uses the hero power to develop a full grip, and then drop a Drake with 8, 9 or even 10 health. Azure Drake sees play in many midrange decks as they can take advantage of the spell power, or even without it it is a strong 4/4 that draws a card.
