The IEM Season IX Shenzhen is the first event of the Intel Extreme Masters Season 9.

Format[edit]

  • General rules:
    • Each player prepares four decks for the tournament.
  • Group Stage:
    • Dual tournament groups of four.
    • Matches will be played in a best-of-three.
    • Both players show the referee three of their four decks, and then the referee reveals the classes to both players. Each player tells the referee which class he or she vetoes, and the vetoes are made known to both players.
    • Each player then selects a deck to play the first game with. The winner of each game in the series must play the same deck in the following game. The loser of the game must select a previously unused deck for the following game.
    • Top 2 advance to Playoffs.
  • Playoffs:
    • Single elimination bracket.
    • Matches will be played in a best-of-five.
    • Both players reveal their chosen classes to one another. Each player tells the referee which class he or she vetoes, and the vetoes are made known to both players. The remaining decks can be used in the match.
    • Each player selects a deck to play the first game with. The winner of the each game in the series must play the same deck in the following game. The loser of the game must select a previously unused deck for the following game.
