History

[edit]

Even though Fnatic was founded in 2004 by Sam Matthews, their journey in League of Legends started in 2011, when the organization acquired the MyRevenge team roster. [154] Initially competing online, the team made their LAN debut as they attended League of Legends first ever World Championship in 2011. Although the team started off rough with a 1-2 record in the Group Stage, they made their win through the Winners bracket, and eventually defeated against All authority in the Grand Finals. Marking their status as the inaugural League of Legends World Champions. The roster, featuring players like Shushei, CyanideFI, xPeke, LaMiaZealot, Mellisan, and wewillfailer, set the foundation for their legacy.

Fnatic continued their dominance in the European competitive scene, winning multiple LCS championships and consistently delivering strong performances on the international stage. The team encountered challenges of the competitive League of Legends landscape, with standout moments. While they reached the 2018 World Championship finals, they ultimately fell short against Invictus Gaming.

Fnatic experienced changes in their roster and a spirited rivalry with G2 Esports. Despite occasional setbacks, Fnatic finished in the top 8 at the 2020 World Championship. The departure of Rekkles in 2020 marked a significant transition, resulting in the introduction of new talent like Upset and Nisqy.

The 2021 season brought its own set of challenges, with Fnatic navigating through roster adjustments and internal issues, ultimately leading to a disappointing performance at the 2021 World Championship. This triggered a significant change of their lineup, which included the addition of Razork, Wunder, and Humanoid for the 2022 season. In 2022, the team secured a spot at the World Championship but concluded their journey in the group stage.

As the 2023 season approached, Fnatic continued to make roster changes, with the return of Rekkles to the AD Carry position. The team faced a variable performance in the LEC Winter Split 2023 and made further adjustments, introducing new players and a coaching change. The LEC Summer Split began positively, but they ended up losing to SK Gaming in the group stage.
