History[edit]

The Beginning (2012-2013)[edit]

paiN Gaming made their debut at IEM São Paulo in 2012, where they finished in third place. In the first Riot Brazilian Champion League they won their third place match against Insight eSports after losing to vTi Nox in the semifinals. In 2013 the team made a return to IEM São Paulo but paiN Gaming failed to qualify for the playoffs as European teams Millenium and MeetYourMakers secured those spots in the group stage. Despite the result, paiN Gaming got invited to IEM 2013 World Championship in Hanover. During the IEM World Championship paiN Gaming faced off against CJ Entus Blaze, Gambit Gaming, Fnatic, Incredible Miracle, and Millenium. With teams from Europe and South Korea, the Brazilian representatives finished the group stage as last place.

Ahead of the the 2013 Riot Brazilian Champion League, paiN Gaming replaced their top laner Tittu and support MiT for Venon and Espeon. With these roster changes they went on to claim victory against CNB e-Sports Club in the final and secured their spot for the inaugural International Wildcard Qualifier facing off against Dark Passage, GamingGear.eu, Lyon Gaming, and Team Immunity. With a strong group stage performance, only losing one game against Latin America's Lyon Gaming, paiN Gaming advanced to the playoffs. Despite winning the semifinals against Turkish Dark Passage, paiN lost to CIS champions GamingGear.eu in the final, failing to qualify for Worlds.

Start of CBLOL and first Worlds appearance (2014-2015)[edit]

After an dissapoiting 2014, brTT decided to join Keyd Stars, a team that decided to import two Korean players as first team in Brazil. paiN Gaming had a rough start during the group stage of CBLOL 2014 and during week 3 the team decided to import two Korean players top laner Lactea and, former KT Rolster Arrows support, Olleh. With these roster changes the team found some momentum finishing third in the group stage, and won their semi-finals match against CNB e-Sports Club. However, in the final they lost against Keyd Stars with a score 2-3. Because of their top four finish in CBLOL 2014 paiN Gaming got invited to the Regional Finals but eventually fell short this time losing to CNB e-Sports Club in the semi-finals and therefore, the team did not qualify for Worlds.

Ahead of the 2015 season, paiN Gaming was unable to obtain renewal for the visas of their two Korean imports Lactea, who transitioned into ADC, was replaced by brTT who rejoined the team after one year at Keyd Stars and Olleh was replaced by Dioud who was imported from Europe. The team struggled during the first split of 2015 finishing the group stage 2-5-0 but this was enough to secure a spot in the playoffs where they eventually were eliminated by INTZ eSports 0-3. However, during the second split they replaced their top laner Leko for Mylon, who transfered from Keyd Stars, with these changes the team showed improvement and finished the group stage 3-3-1 and advanced to the playoffs once again. paiN Gaming went on an impressive winning streak defeating INTZ Red 2-0, Keyd Stars 3-0 in the semi-finals. In the finals INTZ eSports was once again their rival but this time paiN Gaming swept the series 3-0, in a series where game two even took 61 minutes, and qualified for International Wildcard Tournament to have a chance to qualify for Worlds.

During the International Wildcard Tournament paiN Gaming had to face Hard Random and Kaos Latin Gamers. During the tournament paiN Gaming went unbeaten going 4-0 in the group stage and defeating Kaos Latin Gamers 3-0 in the final as the team secured their first ever World Championship appearance. paiN Gaming was drawn into a group of Counter Logic Gaming, Flash Wolves, and KOO Tigers. Despite winning a game against Flash Wolves and Counter Logic Gaming their debut year at Worlds was cut short as the team was eliminated placing tied for third place, with North America's first seed CLG, with a score of 2-4 in the group stage.

Tougher times (2016-2019)[edit]

After the great success of 2015, paiN Gaming started to struggle over the years with multiple roster changes happening as key players such as their bot lane Dioud leaving before the start of the 2016 season and brTT leaving after a dissapointing 6th place finish in Summer season and having to defend their CBLOL spot during the promotion tournament. During the 2017 summer and winter paiN Gaming managed to make it to the playoffs both times however, they were not able to secure first place. Ahead of the summer season of 2018, TinOwns will become the new mid laner as Kami will move to an inactive position and Takeshi became the new top laner as Mylon retired. These changes affected the team heavily as they finished in last place and the team was relegated to BRCC

Relegation to BRCC[edit]

After the relegation paiN Gaming decided to rebuild their roster only keeping TinOwns and Matsukaze. The new roster contains Ayel, Nappon, TinOwns, Matsukaze, and Dioud rejoined. This new roster finished 1st in the group stage 2-3-0 tied with Operation Kino and Team oNe eSports. As paiN Gaming advanced easily to the final after beating Team oNe eSports 3-0 in the semi-finals they fell short against Redemption Porto Alegre as they got swept 0-3 and thus not directly promoting but moving to the promotion tournament. During the promotion tournament their rivals INTZ eSports were waiting however, once again paiN Gaming got swept 0-3 as they failed to promote back to the CBLOL. Once again the team decided on two changes Minerva rejoining the team to become the new jungler and esA joining from Flamengo eSports as support. During the Summer season of BRCC 2019 paiN Gaming showed why they belong in the CBLOL as they went 13-2 tied with Red Canids for first place in the group stage, and advancing to the playoffs once again. However, this time they swept Falkol 3-0 in the semi-finals and Team oNe eSports in the final to earn their spot back into the CBLOL as they retained their spot during the CBLOL Winter season with a fifth place finish.

Back on the Rise (2020-2024)[edit]

With Kami returning from being inactive, paiN Gaming decided to keep TinOwns as the starting mid laner for the 2020 season. The team decided also to import SeongHwan and Key from South Korea and brTT rejoining once again after 3-years. With these changes the team did not solve their struggle as they finished sixth place. Moving forward into the 2020 Winter split the team dropped their Korean players to play once again with a full Brazilian roster. This time the team managed to reach the final to face their rivals INTZ. paiN Gaming was not able to secure first place as they lost 1-3 in the final. That concluded their 2020 season and after eight years with paiN Gaming Kami announced his retirement from League of Legends.

Returning to the International Stage[edit]

During the first split of 2021 paiN Gaming finished the group stage tied for 4th place with LOUD. As the team advanced to the playoffs they faced LOUD in the quarterfinals, and went down 0-2 to eventually reverse sweep the series to win 3-2. After that, 1st seed, Flamengo Esports awaited them in the semi-finals as once again paiN Gaming managed to pull through and win 3-2 to eventually face Vorax in the final and secure victory after defeating them 3-1 and win their third CBLOL title and the first one since 2015. With this result paiN Gaming returnes to the international stage and represent Brazil at MSI 2021. At MSI pain Gaming was drawn into the group of İstanbul Wild Cats, MAD Lions, and PSG Talon but the team was only able to secure third place in the group, and was eliminated, with just two victory's over Turkish side İstanbul Wild Cats.

Second place streak[edit]

Ahead of the first split in 2022, paiN Gaming made four changes to their roster only keeping Cariok as they lined up as Wizer, Cariok, dyNquedo, Trigo, and Damage. With this roster the team managed to reach the playoffs and eventually the final but managed to finish second after losing to RED Canids.

LOUD Rivalry[edit]

During the second split of 2022, paiN Gaming kept the same roster as the once agian advanced to the playoffs and even reach the final after beating LOUD 3-2 in the upper bracket final. However, LOUD, with formed paiN Gaming players Robo and TinOwns, managed to improve and defeat paiN Gaming 0-3 in the final. in the 2023 season paiN Gaming replaced their ADC Trigo with Bvoy. Despite brining in Bvoy both split 1 and split 2 paiN Gaming fell short in the final against their rivals LOUD. Once again paiN Gaming decided to change their bot lane bringing in TitaN as ADC and Kuri as support. However, the first split of 2024 showed to be an exact replica of the 2023 season as paiN Gaming lost to LOUD in the upper bracket final and won the lower bracket final to eventually lose again to LOUD in the grand final as LOUD secured their fourth CBLOL title surpassing paiN Gaming, even beating paiN Gaming four times in a row in the finals.

During the second split paiN Gaming finally got their revange against their rivals LOUD as they won in the upper bracket semifinals, and LOUD eventually lost to RED Canids. This time Brazilian powerhouse Keyd Stars was their opponent in the upper bracket final as they secured victory 3-1 and eventually achieved the same result against Keyd Stars in the grand final as paiN Gaming finally broke their second place streak, securing their fourth CBLOL title and qualify for Worlds 2024.

Returning to the Worlds Main Stage[edit]

In the Play-In stage paiN Gaming was drawn to PCS's first seed PSG Talon. Despite showing a strong performance in game 1 they fell short in the next two games, losing the series. After dropping to the lower bracket of Play-In stage, paiN had to face the second seed of VCS, Vikings Gaming, in which paiN Gaming took a clean sweep. By advancing to the Decider Match, paiN Gaming was set up to face their rival region LLA's Rainbow7 (previously known as Lyon Gaming). Game 1 was a one-sided game with Rainbow7 taking the victory, with Keine showing a dominant performing on Syndra, to lead the series. However, In game 2 paiN Gaming fought back to equal the series. With a flanking teleport by Wizer on K'Sante that caught Rainbow7 off guard in the final fight, paiN took the final game, ending a thrilling 45-minute game - a bloodbath according to Zeetwo, and paiN Gaming advanced to the main stage of Worlds for the first time since 2015. However during the swiss stage paiN Gaming was unable to win games against G2 Esports and, reigning world champions, T1 as they moved them to the 0-2 stage. In the third round they faced Team Liquid, in this Americas showdown, paiN was unable to make CBLOL the superior region over North America as they lost 0-2. This loss ended their impressive Worlds run.
