Song "Rookie" Eui-jin (born March 11, 1997) is a Korean player who is currently playing for Invictus Gaming as Mid laner. He is also stylised as RooKie, RooKiE and RoOkiE

History[edit]

Song "Rookie" Eui-jin was born on the 11th March, 1997 in Busan, South Korea. In 2011, at the age of 14, Rookie first found the game and quickly became a young up-and-coming talent within the game's early competitive scene.

In 2013, at the age of 16, Rookie first signed onto his first team, KT Rolster's sister team, KT Rolster Arrows. The team did great during their first two LCK Splits, finishing 5-8th at Champions Spring 2014 and finishing 1st during Champions Summer 2014, and Rookie himself impressed many with his play on champions like Orianna and Syndra (which have now his signature pics). However the team was unable to qualify for Worlds that year due to the players ages.

In 2014, Rookie, along with Jungler KaKAO, were traded onto Invictus Gaming's roster during the great Korean Exodus of 2014, where Rookie became one of the few Korean imports to stay in their new region for more than 4 years. This period from 2015-2016 was relatively quiet for both the Korean mid-laner and the rest of the organisation, with the only placement of note was at last place in their group during Worlds in 2015.

In 2017, however, Invictus would sign up-and-coming stars in their Top laner TheShy and their ADC in JackeyLove, and things almost immedietely turned around for the squad. They finished 3rd during LPL Summer 2017 and narrowly missed qualifying for Worlds 2017 in a nail-biting 5 game series against Team WE. However, their performance during this time signalled change in 2018. The team finished 4th in LPL Spring 2018 and narrowly lost to Royal Never Give Up in the final of LPL Summer 2018 in what many LoL fans considered one of the best games of the year. The team was able to qualify for Worlds 2018, where they would finally show their dominance.

The team went almost undefeated within their group, with them only losing one game to Europe's first seed Fnatic. however, since both teams finished with a 5-1 record, they would have to face off in a tiebreaker match. The team lost, placing Fnatic as the group's 1st seed, leaving iG to face off against Koreas 1st team (and Rookie's former team), KT Rolster. The series was one of the most back and forth many LoL fans had ever seen at Worlds, immortalised with one of the most intense base-races of all time in Game 3. However, iG would eventually win the series 3-2 and would eventually win the whole tournament, with them casting aside G2 Esports in the semi finals 3-0 and destroying their groups 1st seed, Fnatic, in the grand final 3-0.

Today, iG continues to be one of the best teams in the world, with Rookie being considered by many to be one of the best mid-laners in the games fabled history
