T1 (also stylised as SK telecom T1) is a Korean team, formed out of SK Telecom T1 K and SK Telecom T1 S. It is the first and only organisation to win the World Championship three times and also winning it two times in a row. They were previously known as SK Telecom T1.

History[edit]

Season 3[edit]

Between December 2012 and February 2013, SK Telecom formed two rosters. The first team was named SK Telecom T1 #1 and later renamed to SK Telecom T1 S. SK Telecom acquired the roster of Eat Sleep Game, which consisted of Reapered, H0R0, MighTiLy, Raven and StarLast, who had just recently qualified for IEM Season VII - Global Challenge Cologne. The other team, initially known as SK Telecom T1 #2 and later SK Telecom T1 K, was comprised of Impact, Bengi, Faker, Piglet and PoohManDu.

IEM Season VII[edit]

Originally under the banner of Eat Sleep Game, SK Telecom T1 #1 turned heads in the group stage, where they managed to beat Millenium and mousesports, only falling to Fnatic. But with their two victories, they continued into playoffs, where they had to face MeetYourMakers. SK Telecom T1 #1 dealt a massive blow with a 2-0 victory and continued onto the Grand Finals, where they would face the hurdle of Fnatic. In a long and fiercely fought battle, SK Telecom T1 #1 managed to come out on top 2-1, qualifying for the IEM Season VII - World Championship and winning their first Premier tournament under the banner of SK Telecom T1.

At the IEM Season VII World Championship, SK Telecom T1 continued to impress, managing to get the first seed in their group. However, their streak of luck would eventually run out with a 0-2 loss to CJ Entus Blaze in the semifinals.

OLYMPUS Champions Spring 2013[edit]

Both SK Telecom squads qualified for OLYMPUS Champions Spring 2013, Korea's premier league, with the second team outperforming the first. SK Telecom T1 #1 fell short in their quarterfinals match against CJ Entus Blaze, while SK Telecom T1 #2 finished their run in third after losing to MVP Ozone and beating CJ Entus Frost in the third place match.

SK Telecom T1 #1 released four of their players in June 2013 and weren't able to enter into HOT6iX Champions Summer 2013, thus leaving SK Telecom T1 #2 as the only SK Telecom team in the competition after having been awarded a seed from the previous split.

HOT6iX Champions Summer 2013[edit]

SK Telecom T1 advanced to the playoffs with ease and won their quarterfinals match against Jin Air Greenwings Falcons, which had a roster composed of the previous SK Telecom T1 #1 players. In the semifinals, they encountered MVP Ozone, winning 3-1 against them and advancing to the finals against KT Rolster Bullets. This was the first finals appearance for both organisations involved in the Telecom War - a fierce rivalry extending from their encounters in StarCraft: Brood War and StarCraft II. After being initially down 0-2, SK Telecom T1 brought the series back to a fifth game blind pick which featured a highlight duel between Faker's Zed and Ryu's Zed, propelling Faker into stardom in the eyes of western viewers. SK Telecom T1 eventually won the final and became Summer Champions, with Faker winning the season MVP.

With that win, SK Telecom T1 would qualify as the number one seed for the Season 3 Korea Regional Finals in their attempt to qualify for Worlds. They would go on to win a rematch against KT Rolster Bullets in a more convincing fashion, making them one of three Korean teams to enter the Season 3 World Championship, along with NaJin Black Sword and Samsung Ozone.

Season 3 World Championship[edit]

In the group stage, SK Telecom T1 were placed in Group A with Chinese, European and North American second seeds, Oh My God, Lemondogs and Team SoloMid and with CIS wildcard team GamingGear.eu. They were made favorites in the tournament and they showed that in groups, only dropping a game to Oh My God and finishing the group with a 7-1 record, advancing to the next round.

In the quarterfinals, they swept Taiwanese first seed Gamania Bears and passed on to the semifinals against the Korean first seed NaJin Black Sword. This was one of the most competitive series of the tournament, with NaJin Black Sword forcing the series into a fifth game, but SK Telecom T1 ultimately prevailed and would go on to the finals to play against Royal Club Huang Zu in the Staples Center of Los Angeles, CA. SK Telecom T1 dominated the finals with an aggressive and explosive style, winning 3-0, and being crowned Season 3 World Champions.
