Hyeon "EFFECT" Hwang is a South Korean player who recently played for the Dallas Fuel. Before Stage 4 of the Inaugural Season began, EFFECT returned to South Korea, and did not come back to Los Angeles for the rest of the Season. However, he later announced that he would be back for the next season of Overwatch League.^[1]

On April 6th 2019 EFFECT posted on his Facebook announcing that he would be retiring from professional play. He retired from professional play so he could focus on his mental health. In his Facebook post he mentioned self harm and suicidal thoughts. In fear of what would happen if he continued his play he made the decision to stop playing professionally so he could focus on his mental health.^[2] He would eventually agree to stay with the Dallas Fuel as a streamer.^[3]

Trivia

EFFECT came out as bisexual on 22 December 2018, making him the first bisexual player to compete in the Overwatch League as well as making him the third openly LGBT player in the league.^[4]
