The Pokémon Players Cup is an event organised by Play! Pokemon after the Pokémon Competitive Circuit for 2020 was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The tournament has 3 different sections:
- Open Qualification Stage: All players from any eligible country/region have to play 45 Bo1 games (15 per day) to give themselves a rating. The Top 256 from North America, Europe and Latin America (as well as the Top 128 from Oceania) would then be put into the next stage.
- Regional Closed Qualifiers: The Top 256 from North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Top 128 from Oceania would now have to play in a Region-locked Double Elimination bracket to decide the Top 4 (Top 3 from Oceania for Players Cup I) of each region to go to the Global Finals.
- Global Finals: The Global Finals would consist of the Top 4 from each region (Top 3 for Oceania in Players Cup I) in another Double Elimination.
Prize Pools[edit]
Although being the replacement for the official Pokémon 2020 Competitive Circuit, the prizes are rather miniscule with every participant from the Open Qualifiers getting 50 Battle Points in-game to purchase from the Battle Shop, then the major prize is the Top 4 of the Global Finals receiving a Travel Award for the next International Championships when the official circuit is continued.
