The 2008 Pokémon Video Game Showdown was the first video game World Championships event hosted by then Pokémon Organized Play (now Play! Pokémon). 64 Players (32 from each division) would be chosen from 4 different qualifier tournaments to be given a chance at playing in this event. 2 Qualifiers were set in the United States and another 2 in Japan. The top 8 from each tournament's divisions would then be invited to the Video Game Showdown Finals at Orlando, Florida of the United States.
