Controversy[edit]

The winners semis match between Mew2King and Unknown522 was controversial, and it led to the entire tournament falling apart. The tournament used a modified form of the counterpick rules, where you could not counterpick any stage you won on during the set, as opposed to just the last stage you won on being unselectable.

After the first 4 games played out with no problems, Mew2King counterpicked Final Destination, a stage he had won on during the set. Mew2King won, apparently securing him a spot in winners finals. After the set, Unknown asked Alukard for clarification on the rules, and he ordered M2K and Unknown to replay the fifth game, which Unknown won on Yoshi's Story. KirbyKaze then used Fox (as opposed to his main Sheik) against Unknown in winners finals, effectively conceding and giving Unknown a berth in grand finals.

When Unknown and M2K met again in grand finals, they publicly agreed to split the winnings, and Unknown refused to play Fox in grand finals, leading to a 6-0 win for M2K. Winners finals and grand finals were not uploaded to the VGBC YouTube channel, and with the VOD being deleted off of Twitch, the matches are seemingly lost.

The controversy led to the start of Melee It On Me with a Skype call between Scar, Prog, Hyuga, and Cactuar that was broadcast on Twitch.[1]
