Overview[edit]

The 1998 Starcraft Season 3 Ladder Tournament started on December 4th, 1998 and consisted of the 16 top-ranked players on the official ladder.[1] One replacement was made due to a player not showing up to the event. The tournament was one of the earliest StarCraft tournaments recorded and officially held by Blizzard. Blizzard also recognized the top 10 ladder finishers of Starcraft Seasons 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7, but unlike the present tournament, no play-off tournaments were held during those seasons.[2]

All the matches in the ladder stage of the tournament were played as a Bo3 while the grand finals was a Bo7.

It is also interesting to note that the tournament was played using the game speed "Fast".
