Overview[edit]

The 1999 Brood War Tournament World Championships started on July 15th, 1999 and consisted of the 16 top-ranked players on the official ladder.[1] The World Championships gathered the top eight finishers of the 1999 Brood War Season 1 Ladder Tournament and 1999 Brood War Season 2 Ladder Tournament to determine a grand champion.

One alternate replaced an absent player. The tournament was one of the earliest Brood War tournaments recorded and officially held by Blizzard and the largest prize pool of its time.

Tournament Information[edit]

All the matches in the ladder stage of the tournament were played as a Bo3 while the grand finals was a Bo5. It is also interesting to note that the tournament was played using the game speed "Fast".

Prize Pool[edit]

$14,000 and commemorative prizes were award among the top placing players according to the following distribution:[2]

5th – 16th place were awarded commemorative plaque engraved with name and final ranking.
