Overview[edit]

The 2007 IEF, or International e-Sports Festival was held from August 10-12, 2007 in Gangneung, South Korea.[1][2] It was composed of 16 players from China and South Korea, featuring eight participants from each country who were selected from a preliminary qualification process.[3] The Korean preliminaries were conducted on- and off-line during June and July, 2007 for the August grand finals.[4][5]

Alongside the StarCraft competition, tournaments for Warcraft III and Counter-Strike were also held.[6][7]

The tournament was the third in a series of collaborative tournaments between the two nations, following the 2005 CKCG and 2006 IEF, but would feature participants, as well, with Counter-Strike teams from Europe and the United States.[8]

Tournament Information[edit]

The matches were played as a best of one format in the Group Stage, while the Elimination Stage bracket was a best of three format. The Group Stage, which was played as four-person round robins, enabled the selection of the top eight finishers. The Elimination Stage then followed as a single-elimination bracket.[9][10]

Prize Pool[edit]

$20,000 was awarded among the top placing players according to the following distribution:[11][12]

Along with Warcraft III and Counter-Strike, the total prize pool for the four games was $70,000.
