Chronology

Overview[edit]

The 2011 IEF, or International e-Sports Festival, was held from October 7-9, 2011 in Hongjin, South Korea.[1][2] Alongside the StarCraft competition, tournaments for Warcraft III and Special Force were also held.[3][4] As many as 20 countries were represented for these competitions, but the names of the participants is largely unavailable.[5]

The 2011 IEF was the seventh in a series of collaborative tournaments between the two nations, beginning from the 2005 CKCG, before being renamed to the IEF for the subsequent years. It would be the last IEF tournament to feature StarCraft as it transitioned to StarCraft II the following year.

Tournament Information[edit]

The matches were played with a best of three format, with the finals played as a best of five[6][7][8]

Reports surfaced of disorganization emerged during the tournament, resulting in long delays and inadequate communication of playing schedules. Some players were noted to have forfeited as a result.[9][10]

Prize Pool[edit]

$17,000 was awarded among the top placing players according to the following distribution:[11][12]

Due to unavailable records, the identity of the third place winner is not known. Along with Warcraft III and Special Force, the total prize pool for the four games was $58,000.
