The 2 Rax Tech build is a mid game build order in TvZ against 2 Hatch play. In contrast to the other options against 2 Hatch play such as the normal 3 Rax build or the 4 Rax play, this build forgoes mid game aggression in favor of a stronger Tank push once Vessels are built.

Build Order[edit]

One can enter into this build order from any opener, though the build order here will use the 1 Rax FE as the opener. Do note that supply counts may be variable, depending on early game factors. However, the order in which the buildings are built should remain the same.

  • 20 Barracks
  • 23 Supply Depot
  • 24 Refinery
  • Bunker if necessary (see Bunker Timing)

Bunker Timing[edit]

Some Zergs will choose to get a group of Speedlings while teching up to Lair. In this scenario, or when you have no idea what the opponent's Zergling count is, you must get a Bunker up in order to defend against Zerg aggression. If he does attack, be sure to pull SCVs to repair the Bunker and to partially wall it off so Zerglings can't fully surround it. Do note that if you do need to get a Bunker, you should only put 1 SCV on gas until you can get your Academy up, at which point you should place all 3 SCVs back on gas. Also note that your Academy may be later than the posted supply, but you should try to build it as soon as possible, even if it means stopping Marine production for a few seconds.

From here, you have several options for a transition:

Pure SK Terran[edit]

This is a very common transition from the 2 Rax Tech because of the speed at which Vessels are gotten. Thus a fair number can be built up before Zergs can reach Hive tech. This allows the Terran to easily transition into a strong late game army composition.
