Description[edit]
Alternative is a 2-player map for Starcraft: Brood War created by [Ragnarok]Valkyrie. It replaced Benzene in Round 5 of the 2010-2011 Shinhan Bank Proleague.
Much like the Twilight map Medusa, Alternative features a rampless choke and a vulnerable main. As a result of its features, Terran was considered very weak on the map, and were rarely sent out to play. Of the 94 games on record, Terran only appears in 13, and they always performed poorly against Protoss.[1]
Notable Features[edit]
- Alternative - An alternative path into either bases natural can be opened by either destroying the Xel'Naga Temple, or mining a mineral patch containing 40 minerals. Through this back door is a mineral only expansion containing 6 mineral patches.
- Narrow Choke - The choke into the main is extremely narrow and can easily be blocked by a single building.
- Island Expansion - There is an elevated island expansion attached to each main base. The expansion is blocked my a single mineral patch containing 0 minerals.
- Rampless choke - The main is on the same level as the natural, and the natural expansion is fairly open and vulnerable. Much like on Medusa, this made early game harassment more effective.
- Open main - The main is fairly large and the minerals are placed in the center, making it easier to sneak in cheese builds or drops.
