Description

Battle Royal was introduced in Round 4 of the Shinhan Proleague 2008-2009 Season as one of four new maps for the round. With a very unusual layout and two neutral assimilators acting as a choke outside of each natural (similar to the assimilators on Troy). With both Assimilators in place any unit can pass. With one destroyed, only small units can pass, and with both destroyed, only Ghosts are able to pass between them. Due to the unique layout and the map's short air distance between each main Zerg players were almost exclusively sent out to play on this map resulting in 37 ZvZs, 9 TvZs, and 1 ZvP played; as a result the map was removed for Round 5 and replaced with Shades of Twilight.

Notable Features

Neutral Assimilators - The Assimilators are usually destroyed by one or both players blocking the short rush path and forcing players to destroy the neutral temples to gain access to the outer portion of the map.
Neutral Buildings - The neutral buildings block off the naturals and center of the map from the many expansions scattered around the edge of the map.
Blocking Minerals - Alongside the neutral buildings are also blocks of 24 minerals each allowing players the option of mining out the passageway instead of destroying the buildings to get in or out.
Natural Harassment - From behind the wall, the natural expansion is able to be hit by lurkers, tanks and vultures.
