Kim "DarkElf" Sun Ki is a former StarCraft progamer from South Korea who played Terran for CJ Entus before military service led him to join Air Force ACE.[1]
Brood War[edit]
CJ Entus[edit]
[2] Darkelf's most recognised victory probably stems from defeating Sea in the Ace Match of the 2007 Shinhan Proleague R2 playoffs. MBCGame had been leading 3-1, one win away from victory, but were forced to go to Ace eventually. Sea was an obvious choice for MBCGame, Darkelf an unlikely one for CJ - but he prevailed. CJ continued to the finals where they lost to Hwaseung.
Air Force ACE[edit]
DarkElf enlisted with the Republic of Korea Air Force on 25 May 2009. He began practicing with ACE starting in August of that year.[3] When asked about his motivation for joining ACE, DarkElf had this to say:
Basically I wanted to continue gaming. I think that through joining ACE, I will be able to play (on stage) much more. And because I am not that old, if I solve the military service issue by joining the ACE team and continue my gaming career, then I will be able to have a long gaming career through StarCraft, as well as the soon-to-be-released StarCraft II.DarkElf (in an interview with FOMOS)
He was seen on that team's roster in Proleague frequently, but he met mixed success. During this time, he was considered one of the best players on Air Force Ace.[citation needed]
Match Fixing Scandal[edit]
In 2010, it was discovered that he was involved with the match fixing scandal, and was permanently banned from progaming by KeSPA.
