Description[edit]
El Niño was one of the three new maps for the 2009 EVER OSL. After a long hiatus, the ice tileset has been used once again for a professional map, but just like last time, complaints arose from the progaming community that the ice tiles were hard on the eyes during excessive practice. As result, the map has been completely redone with a Twilight tileset for further use in 2010, and renamed to "Great Barrier Reef". Apart from the tileset overhaul and some resource distribution changes, no other major changes have been made.
Notable Features[edit]
- Outsider/Holy World Style Expansions - Each player has access to a style of expansions seen on the maps Outsider and Holy World. The expansions loop around the back and are separated by mineral lines like on Outsider, yet it doesn't directly lead into the opponent's main, but rather just the middle again, similar to Holy World.
- Hard to Attain Fourth Gas - While the first three gas expansions are easy to take, the fourth gas expansion is rather far and is thus harder to take.
- Semi-Open Center - The center is semi-open as it has large bridges connecting each third of the map, yet it also has three smaller land bridges so the bigger bridges are not the only paths toward other thirds of the map.
