Fake 2 Hatch Hydra (vs. Protoss)
Overview[edit]
The Fake 2 Hatch Hydra build pretends to be a 2 Hatch Hydra (vs. Protoss), an aggressive all-in strategy. It imposes an early threat to the Protoss, but no commitment from the Zerg.
Goal[edit]
The goal is to force the Protoss to over-commit to defense while you focus on taking your third and making Drones. You want to produce as few Hydralisks as possible to maximize drone count.
Basic Build Order[edit]
Note: You can transition into this build off of almost every opening build. This is an example based on the Overpool (vs. Protoss) opening build.
- 9 Overlord
- 9 Spawning Pool
- 11 Hatchery
- 14 Extractor
- 16 Overlord
- @50 Gas - Hydralisk Den
- @100% Hydralisk Den - Hydralisk Range + 4 Hydralisks
Notes[edit]
You should have 17 drones mining before you start Hydralisk production. 9 on minerals in your main, 3 on gas, 5 mining minerals in your natural. Because fear is the main point of this build, it is important that Protoss is kept in the dark as much as possible. The most important thing is that Protoss does not see the discontinued Hydralisk production. When you are at protoss's natural, pick off his gateway and forge. You must remember to bring your Zerglings to prevent Protoss from pushing out with his early zealots.
Transition[edit]
Your tech will be slow, so it is a good idea to follow up with 4 hatcheries and use Hydralisks to deal with protoss's tech.
