Description[edit]

Flight Path is a three player island map. It is used in the 8-Player Random vs Random Invitational[1]

Notable Features[edit]

  • double starting bases - Each player has a second base available at game start, so fast expansion builds are viable despite its being an island map.
  • vulnerable mineral lines - All mineral lines on the map are exposed to air based harassment, making Mutalisk and Wraith openings very dangerous and encouraging air-based play throughout the game.
  • equally scattered out expansions - Air distances between bases are short, but ground distances are long to encourage air-based play while still keeping ground units useful
  • only fast geysers - All geysers on the map give full (or very close to) mining rates with only 3 workers on gas.
  • neutral Command Center at free spawn - in a 1v1 game, a neutral Command Center will spawn at the unused spawn. Zerg can infest this Command Center to gain access to Infested Terrans in any matchup. The Command Center does not block Town Halls from being built at that expansion.
  • "flight paths" - the eponymous flight paths are radial high ground cliffs that meet in the middle and connect to the starting bases and have beacons on top of them in regular intervals. These appear in the colour of the adjacently spawning player, so players can find their enemy by scouting the centre of the map with air units (p.e. a Zerg's initial Overlord or a Terran player's floating Barracks).
  • blocked-off breaches - The low-ground areas are connected by three passages which are initially blocked by two 2x-stacked Xel'Naga Temples (5k HP each). Players can destroy these buildings to increase map access for their ground armies.
