Giga Grandslam VI
(≃ $4,205 USD)
The Giga Grandslam was a tournament hosted in November/December 2005 by the German broadcasting station Giga TV and featured for different titles, among them StarCraft: Brood War.
Qualification System[edit]
Game Selection[edit]
To determine which game eventually got featured in the final Grandslam Giga TV introduced a community contest which should offer prizes to the most active communities. On their tournament page players could challenge each other via a so-called "fast challenge" system. Each week different games had to face each other, StarCraft: Brood War was up against Worms. The title with most finished fast challenges would qualify for the final Grandslam and the prize pool. Brood War won close with 51% of all games and qualified directly.
The Ladder[edit]
The fast challenge system was used to generate an ELO-Based ladder ranking. The ladder itself was lasting for twelve days; at the end of every day the highest ranked player got picked for the following group stage. From those two groups with six players each got generated randomly. The best four per division could advance to a knockout stage.
