Description[edit]
Hazard Black is a three player map made by Freakling from the map making community at broodwarmaps.net. It is one of six maps that were used in the BWMN Open in 2012/13 and the only (3) player map in the tournament.
Due to complaints by Terran players about difficulties with defending against Mutalisks and securing a third gas base on the map, various updates were made before the tourney finals and again after that.
The map has since been used in various foreign leagues and tournaments and kept receiving updates.
Notable Features[edit]
- Hazard Symbol - A bio-hazard symbol is in the centre of the map: In the original map this symbol is visible in bright red on the minimap, this feature has been removed for the Tournament version, however.
- Doodad Overlord Spots - The naturals have an Overlord spot made of doodads mimicking the effect of a high ground cliff (due to the lack of available high ground terrain on Ash world tileset)
- Natural Backdoor - The natural has a backdoor walled off by an egg wall. The only units that can pass the wall are Reaver Scarabs. There is a mineral patch by it for workers to mineral walk up.
- Low resource expansions - The middle and backdoor intermediate expansions only yield 1248 minerals per patch and 2000 gas per geyser.
Pathing and scout timings[edit]
The scouting distance for workers from spawn point to spawn point is 44 game seconds for clockwise direction and 47 gs for counter-clockwise direction (the difference probably stems from different likelihood to bump into terrain obstacles, depending on the direction of travel).

Wall-ins[edit]
All wall-ins are displayed with collision boxes for the buildings and units to display gap sizes accurately.
- Zerglings are placed to show that a gap is Zergling-tight.
- Zealots are used to highlight gaps which are tight against zealots, but not against Zerglings or to demonstrate how many Zealots are needed to block out Zerglings in an FFE wall.
- Marines are placed where they would spawn in-game.

- moved starting locations closer to main ramp to make proper turret coverage easier
- added more building space around middle expansions
- reduced width of ramps to the centre
- added building space for turrets on the low ground
- added gas geyser to the backdoor expansion. Resource yields for both the backdoor and middle expansions changed to 6x1248m + 2000g
- various optimizations on resource positioning to ensure positional mining balance
- edited cliffs at backdoor to allow proper vision of the mineral stacks for worker glitching
