This event was sponsored by the Russian investor Sergey Mavrodi and his project MMM-2011. The prize pool was expanded to $100 and the tournament's name was changed to Defiler MMM-2011 Tour, but is still listed as an official part of the Defiler.ru Tournament series.
Mavrodi's criminal past in addition to the new and almost unchanged project plan of MMM-2011 lead to controversies before the tournament started. A lot of Russian trolls and a flood of memes appeared on the Defiler homepage, some artificially hyping the new fool proof plan to make money with the pyramid system, others defending the need of new money for the Brood War scene.
This event also featured two come-backs from older players: Heme played a few games under the nick MMM-2011, but lost in the earlier stages. The oldschool Protoss Arcneon entered the series and showed a lot of older strategies, but ultimatively lost to eonzerg's mutalisks.
The champion of the first five editions gargoyle returned and fought his way to win the tournament with convincing games in the Loser Bracket. However, the runner-up Scan disappeared shortly before the super finals and lost without actually playing.
