Maelstrom
Maelstrom (often misspelled as Maelstorm) is an offensive spell cast by the Protoss Dark Archon. Maelstrom is an area of effect ability that stuns all Biological units in a three-matrix radius (one matrix being a thirty-two pixel square). Stunned units cannot move, attack, or use any abilities for 7.48 seconds (178 frames).
It affects air and ground units, but not burrowed units. However, it interrupts Burrow if the target isn't done burrowing.
Once cast, have units ready to strike its victims to exploit the brief stun. Units ordered to attack-move will automatically prioritize non-stunned units; you must manually target the stunned units if you want to focus them.
All Zerg units; the Marine, Firebat, Medic and Ghost; and the Zealot, High Templar and Dark Templar are organic. Maelstrom has no effect on other units. Thus, the ability is strongest against Zerg; a single Dark Archon can stun a stack of air units, and a handful can stun large ground compositions. Maelstrom is weaker against Terrans and Protoss. If your opponent masses the aforementioned units, Maelstrom may be useful; otherwise, you should save the energy and research cost.
If Maelstrom stuns cloaked units, they remain cloaked but are revealed for the duration (the same way Ensnare and Plague work). Since it cannot hit burrowed units, they remain hidden.
