Overview[edit]
Blizzard's Map of the Week was, as the name implies, a service by Blizzard where they every week would release a new map. Most of the maps were standard 2-8 player maps while some were UMS maps. Furthermore, Blizzard also introduced a few story-driven singleplayer maps in the so-called Enslavers: Dark Vengeance storyline that takes place just after the fall of The Confederacy.
The first map of the week, Brushfire, was released on May 22, 1998 and the last one, suitably named End of the Line, was released on August 25, 2000. A few maps released in this way became official Ladder maps and some became a part of the WebMaps folder released with Brood War. Also, some of the maps were later used in the progaming scene during tournaments. The map Big Game Hunters would also become a favourite amongst many casual players.
After Blizzard stopped with their map of the week service, they implemented a "Map of the Month" system instead that lasted until April 2001.
