Description[edit]

Nuclear Strike in an offensive spell cast by the Terran Ghost, once casted, it requires the Ghost to stand still without being interrupted for 14.5 seconds, then it lands 3 seconds afterwards and damage in a large area, falling off the further out it goes like other kinds of splash. It deals 2/3 of a unit's base HP + base Shields or 500 damage (reduced by armor), whichever is greater, however this is reduced by 50% to 75% based on distance from the center. It can be cast anywhere within sight range of the Ghost casting it, so the Ocular Implants upgrade increases the cast range by 2.

Each cast of Nuclear Strike requires the building of a Nuclear Missile unit at the Terran Nuclear Silo, these cost 200/200 each as well as 8 supply. If the Ghost is interrupted at any point during casting, the Nuclear Missile is lost and must be rebuilt to cast again (unless another has already been built at another Nuclear Silo).

Usages/Tips

  • Most often in Terran vs. Terran matches to end a late game stalemate, due to static play and lack of mobile detectors, by killing a tank line.
  • Can be used in conjunction with an EMP Shockwave to destroy a Nexus, as well as Pylons around it.
  • As a means to show one's dominance or to subtly tell opponents that they have lost.
  • It is preferable to target the spot from a not-too-obvious angle (or even from under a floating building), so that it is harder to spot the cloaked Ghost. Hiding it other units makes it much harder to target for enemies to interrupt it.
  • When targeting an air unit, it is possible that the red dot will be hidden underneath it, making it hard to spot.
  • Typical targets include clusters of tightly packed buildings (especially Supply Depots), the Mineral Line, heavily defended choke points, and large groups of units. These areas should be first checked by the player being nuked.
  • The Terran player will sometimes nuke an anticipated area to where the opponent's units will retreat.
