General Information

The PLU 5-PLU League 2006-Player's Labor Union League (PLU2006电子竞技超级联赛) was hosted in June 2006 and had a prize pool of $2,500. The PLU was one of the biggest e-Sports leagues outside of Korea and supported mostly StarCraft Brood War and Warcraft III. The broadcasts of their main events had more than 50,000 viewers and its money enabled few Chinese players to make a living from gaming.

The online league had four stages: the preliminaries, two group stages for the Round of Sixteen/Eight and the semifinals. The Round of Eight used a common group system where everybody played everybody in a best of three. The two best players from each group advanced, additionally three players had the opportunity to receive a wildcard, allowing them to move on, too. However, the exact score was crucial, as the following semifinals used a seeding procedure: the best player was automatically seeded into a final, the player with the worst score had to play all other four players to win overall.
