Description[edit]

Silent Vortex is a competitive map for Starcraft: Brood War designed by [Ragnarok]Valkyrie. It was used in the 2001 and 2002 OnGameNet Starleague seasons, and underwent some small changes during this time.

Notable Features[edit]

  • Ice tileset - Uncommon in later years due to snow tiles being hard on the eyes, but here the snow is used sparingly
  • Ramp choke in natural - Small ramp choke makes it easy to secure the natural expansion
  • Exposed central expansions - Middle expansions highly vulnerable to attack and harass
  • (Silent Vortex) No safe third expansion - The central third expansion is hard to defend
  • (Neo Silent Vortex) Mineral-only third - The only safe third expansion is mineral-only, and has only 4 mineral patches

  • Reorganized mineral patches for more consistent mining
  • Added a small mineral-only third expansion next to the ramp
  • Slightly modified cliffs at the 5 and 7 positions
