Description[edit]

Switchback is a map released by Blizzard as part of Brood War and intended for non-ladder play.

As with many maps made by Blizzard, Switchback has a few positional imbalances. While both starting positions can be harassed by Siege Tanks on ground on the other side of the rift, the amount of places where tanks can reach from is greater at the top left starting position than the bottom right. The gas of the expansion in the top right can be reached by Siege Tanks on the other side of the rift, if positioned right. Such is not the case with the expansion in the bottom left, though one tank can be fitted on the island directly north of the gas and thus reach the gas.

While the high ground in the top left corner is larger than that in the bottom right, no tanks placed there are in range of the Command Center/Nexus/Hatchery of the starting position, while tanks placed on the leftmost tip of the high ground in the bottom right can reach the starting position's building.

Notable Features[edit]

  • Long, twisting way to reach the other base.
  • The choke points are unbuildable where they are the narrowest.
