Description[edit]

Three Kingdoms is a map released by Blizzard with StarCraft and intended for non-ladder play. It has some positional imbalances.

While the doodad pillars on the high ground in the middle of the map block tanks and similarly sized units from passing by to the north and south east parts of the high ground, it does not for the south west.

The bottom starting location's Town Hall is also the only one that can be reached by Siege Tanks placed on the high ground in the middle.

The chokes vary in layout and size depending on which location players spawn.

Also, the natural expansion of the left starting position is a low ground expansion while it is a high ground expansion for all other starting locations. The Town Hall of the left expansion can be reached by tanks on two structure high grounds nearby. This is the only starting position that has this draw back. However, the Town Hall of the starting position at the bottom can be reached by tanks placed on the high ground natural south of it. This means that only the Town Hall of the starting position to the right is safe from high ground tanks.

Since this map's distance from the bases are very close, Heavy Macro middlegames are unlikely to occur. The close difference might also allow for extremely fast and effective rushes, even from multiple bases.

Notable Features[edit]

  • Unbuildable chokepoints.
  • Very short air distance between starting locations.
  • Connected high ground overlooking all starting locations.
  • Unable to wall
  • Each expansion has a vespene geyser
