The WCG Korean National Preliminaries 2004 were held from August 5-15, 2004.

The top three players qualified for the Grand Finals in San Francisco, CA, USA.

Format[edit]

The Korean qualifying tournament was composed of 32 players in an offline tournament on August 13 and 15, 2004.

To select the 32 final contestants, three routes were made available for entry:

  1. 16 participants from an initial First Leg offline tournament made up of 48 top professional players
  2. 14 participants from an online ladder system composed of both amateurs and professionals
  3. 2 participants from a Cyberpark preliminary held offline in cyber cafes/PC bangs in different geographic regions in Korea. These competitors included both amateurs and professionals.

In the final qualifying bracket, the format used was as follows:

  • 32 players in a single elimination brackets
  • All matches were Bo3.

Results: First Leg offline qualifier[edit]

The First Leg offline tournament would be used to select the top 16 players: 12 from the upper brackets and 4 from the lower brackets. The 12 upper bracket players were selected by winning their respective four-player groups in a double-elimination format. In the lower bracket, the winner of the double-elimination lower bracket bracket would face off in a three-person playoff, as detailed below. As such, the winner of three lower bracket groups would advance, with four players being selected from 12 groups.
