About[edit]

GOMeXP is a popular streaming service in South Korea, based on the media player GOM Player (Gretech Online Movie Player), which is a 32-bit media player for Microsoft Windows, distributed by the Gretech Corporation. The GOMTV service offers users various video contents ranging from National Geographic documentaries and television dramas to major motion pictures and adult videos. The service mixes both ad-supported and pay-per-view content.

GOMeXP's involvement in eSports began during the StarCraft: Brood War era, when it created the GOMTV Classic invitational tournament. Nowadays, GOMTV organises the only major leagues held in South Korea, the GOMTV Global Starcraft II League and the GOMTV Global Starcraft II Team League. Indeed, on May 26, 2010, Blizzard Entertainment and Gretech Corporation signed a partnership agreement giving GOMTV exclusive rights to broadcast e-Sports matches of Blizzard games for the next three years. Other channels would still be able to get broadcasting rights after having negotiated with GOMTV, however.

GOMTV also provided housing for foreigners who want to compete in GSL, with its GOMTV Foreigner House. However this program was discontinued in November 2012.[1]

On December 3, 2013, GOMTV re-branded to GOMeXP, also announced were some other changes such as they will no longer offer streaming services on their website and will now fully be broadcasting on TwitchTV.[2]

On October 4, 2015, GOM eXP announced that they will be closing their doors at the end of the year. AfreecaTV have acquired the rights to GSL and will be broadcasting the tournament in 2016.[3]
