The IGN ProLeague, commonly abbreviated as the IPL, was a StarCraft 2 league held and organized by IGN Entertainment's eSports division. A countdown finishing on the April 4th, 2011 was viewable prior to the league announcement on the official IGN home page. The first tournament was an invitational featuring players primarily from North America. In March 2013, IGN announced the cancellation of IPL6.[1] A month later, after much speculation [2] the IGN ProLeague was purchased by Blizzard Entertainment who have announced they have no plans to continue any of IPL's business operations.[3]

IPL Team Leagues[edit]
- To generate community buzz, IGN had a countdown timer on their main website that counted down until the IPL site was launched.
- The first Final ended with all 5 Games being played.
- Each player had a comic book style cartoon drawn of them, and graphics and pregame introductions were reminiscent of comic book / fighting video game battles.
