Overview

sMi is a team based in North America. It was founded in September 2005 by sMi.NewB and sMi.Clash as a Brood War team and during the first year of operations, sMi built up to a strong team in the USA, with sMi.lastgosu taking first place of WCG USA 2006. Over half of the participants in WCG USA 2006 were members of sMi.

In 2007-2008, sMi continued to be a strong and active gaming team, but as Brood War slowly became less popular and members grew older and moved on to the real world, sMi also became less active. The recognisable names on the team included IdrA, NonY, iNkA, KawaiiRice, Suppy and Stalife.

In 2009-2010 sMi hit a phase of extremely low activity, until the team relaunched when the StarCraft II beta was released. The team has been active since, participating in clan leagues, hosting events like KOTH, and practicing together.

In the Summer of 2013, the team obtained a private investment allowing them to transition into a semi-professional team.

2013

• July 14, The team acquired support, and thus the ability to present a competitive roster, including players such as: JimRising, JonSnow, Sonic, OneTrickPony, Skipper, and Virium.
• August 1, As it turns out, the Private Investment acquired by the team was fraudulent, leading to the dissolution of the competitive roster and the departure of key management figures.
