The mysterious Chimaera of Ashenvale Forest are deadly, territorial beasts who have developed an empathic bond with the Night Elf race. The fearsome, two-headed Chimaera fly above the dark forestlands spewing forth their terrible breath weapons upon all who would defy the sanctity of Kalimdor.
Flying two headed dragon. Can learn Corrosive Breath. Attacks land units.
Chimaeras have two different attacks, one used against units (Magic/Msplash) with splash damage and another used against buildings. The second attack (Siege/Missile) is the Corrosive Breath ability which is against buildings. The statistics for that attack are underlined. Chimaeras only get this special building attack when they research Corrosive Breath.
The Chimaeras magic attack deals massive splash damage, that also damages friendly units. A melee unit, that attacks the same target as the Chimaera will still take 50% of the damage the Chimaera deals to the target.
Chimaeras are good for doing hit and run attacks against enemy buildings and expansions. Chimaeras are often used to end the game. A player, that has a significant economical advantage can build Chimaeras in order destroy the enemy army.
Spells & Abilities
- A fully upgraded Chimaera has the highest dps against ground units of all trainable units
- The Corrosive Breath ability has a field "damage per second", that is set to 50. It is likely, that this ability was intended to deal damage over time at some point.
|Balance Patch History|
|Patch Version||Balance Changes|
|1.30.0|| Chimaera's half damage splash radius decreased from 125 to 100.|
|1.15|| Chimaera movement speed reduced to 250 from 270.|
|1.10|| Flying Unit Improvements: We have turned off collision detection for flying units so that they can now easily pass through each other. This will allow air units to move about more smoothly than before. We have also added "separation behavior" so air units will break out of clusters once they reach a destination.|
When "attack-moving", air units now prefer to attack other air units more often than previously.
Chimaera splash increments reduced by 50 for quarter, 25 for half. This effectively means that Chimaeras will do less splash damage than previously.
