Fortified statue that can regenerate the health and mana of nearby friendly units. Can research Destroyer Form. Believed to be gifts granted by Ner'zhul, the Obsidian Statues are often used as figureheads at the forefront of many Undead armies, inspiring awe and fear in the enemy ranks. Nothing can prepare the enemy for what this unfathomable statue could become. Attacks land and air units.

Fortified statue that can help replenish the life and mana of your army. Can initially cast Spirit Touch and Essence of Blight, and learn the Destroyer Form ability.

The Obsidian Statue is a useful support unit. It can regenerate mana and hit points of nearby friendly units.

Once an Obsidian Statue morphs into a Destroyer it cannot return to the Obsidian Statue form.

Strategy[edit]

The Obsidian Statue is one of the best support units in the game that is often neglected by less experienced players as it doesn't do much damage and can be difficult to micro and keep alive during a fight.

Obsidian statues give undead armies a great advantage in staying power. It gives your units small but consistent health and mana regeneration both in and out of fights.

Experienced players will focus down your statues if they get the opportunity to do so. Thus positioning is key to good statue usage. You want to keep your statues behind your main army and park them in a position where its area of effect healing hits all of your heroes and units while keeping it out of range of the enemy. You generally don't want to use the normal "right click" attack on your statues at all, as that will interrupt its auto-casting and you will not get any healing.

If you only have 1 statue, you can still cast both Essence of Blight and Spirit Touch at the same time, but you will have to perform manual casting as you can only auto-cast one ability at a time. This means that you generally want to have 2 statues at the same time so you can auto-cast both abilities. If you are playing a big team game such as 3v3 or 4v4, you may want to have more than 2 statues, as both Essence of Blight and Spirit Touch have a cap of 6 units.

Statues have heavy armor and only 500 hitpoints. They means they die quickly to piercing and magic based attacks, especially coming from air units like Chimaeras, Hippogryph Riders or Wind Riders, who can simply fly behind your army and pick off your statues. In situations where it's basically impossible to keep your statues alive, you may want to leave them in your base or convert them into destroyers so they can take a fighting role.

As statues are mechanical units, you cannot heal your statues with Death Coil. The only way to heal a statue is to morph them into a Destroyer and then use Death Coil, or repair them with acolytes. This makes it all the more important to keep them safe from enemy attacks. Morph your low health statues into destroyers and produce new ones to replace them.

When you are moving your army from one location to another, you should try to manually cast Essence of Blight and/or Spirit Touch. Obsidian statues do not auto-cast when they are ordered to move to a location.

Having statues readily available at your disposal with Destroyer Form upgrade researched is important as it allows you to morph your statue into a Destroyer at any time, including in the middle of a fight, to have dispel at your disposal.

Spells & Abilities[edit]

Essence of Blight
Cast Type : Autocast  Ability Type:  Magical
Target Type : No Target
Restores 10 hit points to nearby friendly non-mechanical units.
Cast Requirements : 10 1.5 s
Area of Effect : 700
Duration : 1 s
Hit Points Healed : 10
Maximum Targets : 6
Notes : You need 10 Mana to be able to cast Essence of Blight, but it only costs 2 Mana per target up to a maximum of 10 Mana.
Hotkey : B

Notes

This does not stack with other spells of the same type. Two Obsidian Statues replenishing life do not do so faster than one.

This spell costs less mana when less targets are available: 5 or 6 targets: 10 mana; 4 targets: 8 mana; 3 targets: 6 mana.

This spell affects a maximum of 6 units per casting. Multiple Obsidian Statues can be used together to heal a larger number of units.

The ability is instant cast (Spirit Touch as well) therefore you can press both Essence of Blight and Spirit Touch hotkeys and have them work simultaneously.

Spirit Touch
Cast Type : Autocast  Ability Type:  Magical
Target Type : No Target
Restores 2 mana to nearby friendly non-mechanical units.
Cast Requirements : 10 1.5 s
Area of Effect : 700
Duration : 1 s
Mana Restored : 2
Maximum Targets : 6
Notes : You need 10 Mana to be able to cast Spirit Touch, but it only costs 2 Mana per target up to a maximum of 10 Mana.
Hotkey : C

Notes

This does not stack with other spells of the same type. Two Obsidian Statues replenishing mana do not do so faster than one.

This spell costs less mana when less targets are available: 5 or more targets: 10 mana; 4 targets: 8 mana; 3 targets: 6 mana.

This spell affects a maximum of 6 units per casting. Multiple Obsidian Statues can be used together to recover mana for a larger number of units.

Even though Destroyers with missing Mana will not trigger the autocast, they are still affected by Spirit Touch and thus increase the mana cost. This ends up being a waste of mana in most cases because of the Destroyer's negative mana regeneration.

Morph into Destroyer
