Juan "VortiX" Moreno Durán (born September 10, 1993) is an active Spanish Undead player, currently playing for KPI Gaming.

Biography[edit]

VortiX started playing Warcraft III with the Undead race in late 2006. In late 2008, despite being very young, he gained moderate notoriety after finishing second in WCG Spain (losing to his brother LucifroN in the final), winning the ZOTAC Cup #112 3-2 against the Korean player ReminD, and getting signed by x6tence, the biggest Spanish club by that time. During 2009 and early 2010, his online performances in ZOTAC Cups, WC3L and SteelSeries Cups and the qualification for ESWC 2010, BlizzCon regionals 2009 and 2010 gained him notoriety as one of the best European players. His biggest result in a big tournament was a top 5/6 in the Warcraft III BlizzCon European regionals, losing 1-2 to both Grubby and LucifroN.

VortiX switched to StarCraft II with the release of Wings of Liberty in May 2010. In StarCraft II he became a succesful world class player, achieving multiple top positions in big tournaments, most remarkably a top 2 in 2012's WCS European championship, a top 5 in the world finals of the same year and a top 3/4 in the WCS 2013 European's championship.

After a succesful trajectory in Starcraft II, VortiX switched to the newly released Heroes of the Storm in January 2015, where he obtained three gold medals in Dreamhack tournaments as Team Liquid's captain. However, in 2016 he decided to retire from esports.

In January 2020, with the release of Warcraft III: Reforged, VortiX started competing in Warcraft III again. In February he signed up for W3iL as a stand in for uMaD Gaming[2]

Trivia[edit]

  • He plays Zerg in Starcraft II.
