Weapon types affect how an Attack performs.
Weapon types that are classified as melee are affected by:
This weapon type is also called melee. It is the only weapon type that is classified as melee.
The normal weapon type can have no missiles, but can play weapon sounds.
Weapon types that are classified as ranged are affected by:
Ranged has nothing to do with the actual Attack Range of the unit.
Missile weapion types have missiles. The missile will deal no damage, if the target is invulnerable, when the missile reaches the target. The missile will also miss, if one of the following conditions is met during any time of the missile's traveling.
- The target is invisible.
- The target is loaded into another unit. For example Orc Burrow, Goblin Zeppelin and Devour.
- The target is teleported.
- The target dies.
Abilities with missiles follow the same behaviour as the Missile weapon type.
Missile Bounce bounces to units close to the target.
Missile Line deals damage to units behind the target.
Artillery weapion types types have missiles. Artillery attacks can be actively dodged, as they do not target units, but areas. By moving out of the area the attack can be dodged. Artillery attacks add the Attack Ground button to the unit, that orders them to attack a certain area. Units killed by Artillery attacks splatter and do not leave corpses behind.
Normal Artillery attacks additionally deal area of effect damage to an area around the target area. Missed attacks only deal 25% damage.
Artillery Line deals damage to units behind the target area instead of dealing damage to an area around the target area.
Currently there are no units with weapon type Artillery Line.
The missile does not travel, but is shown at the target.
